The Impact on a Child

Updated: Apr 20, 2022

Disclaimer: This is a raw journal entry during my sister, Allison’s, journey toward Heaven. She died on March 13, 2015. This is not meant to be dark. Rather, may it provide comfort and connection for those who have also experienced a deep loss like mine.

March 7, 2015

Today, as we drove to town for a birthday party, I told Ethan (my 4-year-old) that Uncle Lance (Allison’s husband) was waiting to run errands so that he could play with him.

Ethan asked, “Why doesn’t Aunt Allison do that?”

I responded, “Well, her body isn’t working the right way, so she needs to stay in bed.”

“When is she going to feel better?” Ethan asked.

“We have to keep praying and ask God to heal her. We have to wait on Him and trust in His purpose for her,” I told him. Actually, my Spirit told him, because I was no where close to beleiving it.

What a sad, harsh reality of the evil one that Ethan and Victoria (my 3-year-old) are being exposed to at such a tender age.

God, use it to strengthen their faith. May this experience put a solidarity to their faith that will never fade away.

Oh, God, I desperately ask You to heal her!

Bring her back to us. Back to my Ethan. May he sit in her lap and play with her again.
